The Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) enables the collection of Earth science data from the EOS spacecraft. As NASA's Earth science data system, EOSDIS provides command and control, scheduling, data processing, and data archiving and distribution services for EOS missions. The mission operations, managed by the Earth Science Mission Operations (ESMO) Project, coordinate the communications through the Space and Ground Network facilities of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) and Polar Ground stations. The staff at the mission Operations facilities perform the spacecraft and instrument control as well as the data capture and initial processing of the telemetry data.
NASA network capabilities transport the data to the science operations facilities.
The EOSDIS science operations are performed within a distributed system of many
interconnected nodes (Science Investigator-led Processing Systems and distributed
data centers) with specific responsibilities for production, archiving, and
distribution of Earth science data products. These data centers supply search
and access of the science data and data products to many science data users.
