The Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project performs its responsibilities in support of NASA’s Earth science missions.
A major component of NASA’s Earth science missions is the Earth Observing System (EOS), designed to collect data for key science measurements.
The EOS includes a set of earth-observing satellite missions, an advanced data system, and science teams. The EOS missions are defined by the EOS Science Project Office. These missions perform what is known as the 24 EOS Measurements to advance understanding of the entire Earth system -- the atmosphere, the land, the oceans, the cryosphere, and the solar driving force.
The EOS data system is called the Earth Observing System Data and Information
System (EOSDIS). EOSDIS manages data for all of the 24 EOS Measurements.
